International First Responder Seatbelt Pledge

President McDowell,

On behalf of the Everyone Goes Home® campaign, I wish to congratulate you, and all members of the Arbutus Volunteer Fire Department for their commitment to firefighter safety by signing the International First Responders Seatbelt Pledge.

The Seatbelt Pledge Program allows firefighters to follow 3 of the 16 Life Safety Initiatives;

Initiative #1 – Define and advocate the need for a cultural change with the Fire Service relating to safety, incorporating leadership, management, supervision, accountability and personal responsibility.

Initiative #2 – Enhance the personal and organizational accountability for health and safety throughout the Fire Service.

Initiative #4 All firefighters must be empowered to stop unsafe practices.

Your achievement of 100% participation in the seatbelt pledge is a commitment that will reduce firefighter injuries and deaths while driving/riding fire department vehicles should a crash occur.

Attached you will find a copy of the Compliance Certificate that is being sent to Battalion Chief Steve Kimple, Director of the Advocate Program Operations, who will be forwarding to one of the state advocates in Maryland for dissemination of the Certificate to your department.

If you have not viewed or heard about a new video sponsored by the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation and the Chicago Fire Department for the Everyone Goes Home Program, I encourage you to use the video as a training tool for your department.  There are numerous testimonies about safety within the video and the video is very encouraging.  Link to Video

Thank you again for the 100% participation by the Arbutus Volunteer Fire Department!  Remember Safety First, buckle up!
